On December of this year, Microsoft is planning to end support for Windows 10 Mobile devices. Microsoft canned the idea of Windows Phone years ago but the security and software update has continued. But now, those updates will be stopped on 10th of December 2019.

Gradually other services like Device backups will also be phased out. So, what will you do if you are a Windows phone user? ironically, Microsoft is now suggesting you to switch to an Android or iOS device.

My View:

Microsoft intended to replicate it’s PC business for Phones and give us a third alternative to Android and iOS. To do this the redmond giant developed an OS specially crafted for Smartphones. The OS, dubbed Windows Phone 7 released on October of 2010.

The OS was great but it never had the app support like Android or iOS. So, the first thing Satya Nadella did after becoming the CEO of Microsoft is to abolish the idea of a mobile phone and focus on mobile of experiences. I think he has succeeded with his Mobile First- Cloud First mantra because the stock price of the company is at all time high but the consumers have lost.

Windows Phone, You will be MISSED.
